It is 20 years since islanders Nick and Robyn Jones planted the first
vines at their stunning Church Bay land overlooking the Hauraki
And with the addition of beautiful French-style gardens and
a prolific kitchen garden, Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant has
evolved into a top quality wedding and dining location attracting
visitors from all over the world.
Expanding over the years, the vineyard area is now on two
distinctively different sites; at the Mudbrick Vineyard at Church
Bay and Shepherd’s Point Vineyard in Onetangi.
Varieties currently include cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet
franc, malbec, syrah, chardonnay and viognier, with hand picking,
hand plunging and gentle basket pressing reflecting in the character
of the wine.
In addition to the Waiheke range, the vineyard also produces a
pinot noir and white wines from other New Zealand regions and
the distinctive Mudbrick wine style has collected numerous awards
over the years.
Mudbrick Restaurant has grown from a small country cafe to
a fine dining establishment, reflecting the owners unwavering
commitment to producing the highest quality food and wine using
the freshest and, where possible, local ingredients.
So to celebrate this 20-year milestone in the life of Mudbrick,
a special six- course degustation dinner with matched Mudbrick
wines will be held on Saturday 21 July at 6pm.
The dinner will showcase different dishes from the beginning of
restaurant service to the present day and similarly the oldest vintag-
es will be taken from the cellar and paired with the different dishes
through the decades; culminating in the 2010 flagship red, Velvet,
which will be poured for the first time at this twentieth-anniversary
Tickets are $140 per person and bookings can be made by contact-
ing Justine Hoggard on firstname.lastname@example.org or (09) 372 9050.
